Hanukkah 2026 starts at sundown on Friday, December 4, three weeks ahead of Christmas, so the usual December shopping rhythm will leave you late. If someone on your list loves a puzzle, this guide gives you the order-by dates first, then eight wooden brain teasers, puzzle boxes and games we would actually give, with what the person does with each one, how hard it really is, and what it costs.

Order by Saturday, November 28 for standard delivery by the first night (Friday, December 4). Engraved or personalized pieces: order by Wednesday, November 25. These are our US dates; the full list is on our holiday shipping cutoff page. Prices below were checked on October 14, 2026 and can change.

The eight, one for each night

10 Penny Puzzle by Creative Crafthouse, a small wooden board with a recess sized for ten pennies
Small and sneaky
The job is to lay ten pennies flat inside a recess on the board. Rows and columns will not fit, so the solver has to find the staggered layout that does. Some people get it in a minute and some carry it around for days, which is half the fun on a first night. Dave Janelle, our founder, turned this bit of circle-packing math into a puzzle, and we make the 10 Penny Puzzle in our Hudson, Florida shop. Ten real pennies and a solution sheet come with it.
$12.50
Penny Drop wooden dice game by Creative Crafthouse
For the whole table
Our pick for the night everyone stays at the table after the candles. Each player starts with 12 pennies, rolls the die and drops a penny into the matching slot, and whoever runs out of pennies first wins. Roll onto a filled slot and you take every penny on the board, so the lead swings fast and young kids can beat the grown-ups. Bring your own pennies (they are not included). Dave invented Penny Drop in 2015, and we make Penny Drop in our Hudson, Florida shop. The editions run from the Mini up to a big poker chip version, with the same rules on all of them; here are the official rules. You can also print the one-page rules and a score sheet from our Penny Drop rules and score sheets page.
$13.95 to $51.95, by edition
Dime Dilemma wooden packing puzzle by Creative Crafthouse with its ten numbered pieces and a dime
The step up
Same family of puzzle as the 10 Penny, but meaner. Ten wooden pieces that grow in size, plus a real dime, all have to fit inside one circle at the same time, and there is only one way to do it. Give it to whoever finished the 10 Penny too quickly. A dime and the solution sheet are included.
$14.75
Cash Out wooden puzzle box with a fake $20 bill behind its clear front window
For cash or a gift card
If money or a gift card is part of your Hanukkah giving, this turns the envelope into a small game. The bill or card sits behind a clear front window, so they can see exactly what they are working for, and a hidden lock keeps it in until they figure it out. Our difficulty scale rates it Intermediate, so expect a little head-scratching before the reveal. It measures 4.6 x 3.6 x 1 inches and is rubberwood with a clear acrylic front.
$20.95
Star 26 math puzzle by Creative Crafthouse, twelve numbered wooden discs on a six-pointed star board
For the math lover
Twelve wooden discs numbered 1 to 12 sit in the holes of a six-pointed star. The question engraved on the board: can you get every row on the star and the inner circle to add to 26? Each number sits on two of the star's six lines, so moving one disc changes two totals at once, and that is where the trial and error starts. The board is the lid of a wooden box that holds the discs, and we make Star 26 in our Hudson, Florida shop.
$26.49
Overhead view of Safecracker 50's five concentric wooden rings with engraved numbers around the center hub
For the serious solver
Five numbered wooden rings turn independently, and the solver has to line them up so all 16 columns add to 50. Some numbers are hidden under the ring above, so you cannot just read the answer off the top. With 16 positions on each of five rings there are 1,048,576 combinations, which makes this the hardest pick here. Dave designed it as a tougher version of our Safecracker 40. It is laser-cut maple and cherry, 5.75 x 5.75 x 1 inches, made in our Hudson, Florida shop, and a solution sheet comes with it for when someone needs it.
$31.75
The Creative Crafthouse Enigma II Small cipher machine, three laser engraved alphabet gears on a wood base
For codes and secret notes
A working wooden cipher machine you run by hand. You set the order of the three gears and a three-letter keyword, then turn the wheel letter by letter to encode a message. Anyone with the same machine and settings can decode it, so before you wrap it you can encode a short note for each of the other nights. Three secret messages to crack come with it, along with instructions and worksheets. It is inspired by the rotor ciphers of the past, not a replica of the wartime Enigma, and the Enigma II Small is made in our Hudson, Florida shop.
$36.95
Secret Stash cube gift box in solid cherry by Creative Crafthouse with an engraved scrollwork medallion on the lid
The last-night gift
A cherry puzzle box with a felt-lined hiding spot for a gift card, folded cash, a check or a small piece of jewelry. The way in is not obvious, but most people open it within minutes once they spot it, so it is built for the moment of the reveal rather than a long struggle. It was designed by Bob Nolet, and we make the Secret Stash in our Hudson, Florida shop.
$57.95

Spreading them across eight nights

Not every night needs a big gift. Some families exchange gifts after lighting the menorah (My Jewish Learning's Hanukkah guide mentions the custom), and one way we would split these up is to start small and build. The coin puzzles make good early nights since they cost little and get passed around the room. Put Penny Drop in the middle of the week so there is a night where everybody plays together. Save a box with something inside, Cash Out or Secret Stash, for the eighth night.

If you are shopping for one person rather than a family, pick by how they solve. Someone who likes a quick win wants the 10 Penny or Cash Out. Someone who will happily lose an evening to a puzzle wants Star 26 or the Safecracker 50. Our guide to choosing puzzle difficulty goes deeper on matching a puzzle to a person.

Engraving, and the earlier deadline

Most of these can be laser-engraved for $4, up to 45 characters: a name, "Hanukkah 2026", or a short line from the family. Engraved pieces are made after you order, so they need the earlier date, Wednesday, November 25, for the first night. They also cannot be returned, so double-check the spelling. Our personalization page shows how it works.

If you are cutting it close

Standard orders placed before noon Eastern ship the same day, and orders over $99 ship free within the continental US. Past November 28, expedited, second-day and next-day shipping are still options; email Sales@CreativeCrafthouse.com with the date you need it and we will tell you what still works. And if you miss every cutoff, a digital gift card ($10 to $100) can be emailed on whichever night you choose.
