What Is Penny Drop?

Penny Drop is a simple yet addictive wooden game for 2 to 10 players. It’s a mix of luck and strategy, making it perfect for family game nights, parties, and travel.

Players take turns rolling a die, placing pennies in slots based on their roll. The goal? Be the first to get rid all your pennies!

Game Setup

Setting up Penny Drop is quick and easy:

  • Each player starts with 12 pennies.
  • Use a standard six-sided die
(Special Wooden Red One die included with every Creative Crafthouse Penny Drop Game).
  • The game board features numbered slots (1-6).
  • Pick a starting player at random or roll for it.

Penny Drop Rules

The game is played in rounds, with players rolling the die and following these steps:

  1. Roll the die. Place a penny into the slot that matches the number rolled.
  2. If you roll a 6: Your penny drops into the box (this is good!).
  3. If the slot is already occupied: You must collect all the pennies in the box and end your turn.
  4. Players must roll at least once per turn. After that, they can choose to roll again or pass.

The game continues until one player gets rid of all their pennies.

How to Win

The first player to successfully drop all their pennies wins the game!

It’s a balance of risk and strategy—do you keep rolling to get rid of pennies faster, or play it safe?

Strategy Tips to Master Penny Drop

  • Know when to stop. Rolling multiple times increases risk—be strategic!
  • Force others to collect pennies. If an opponent is low on pennies, roll cautiously to avoid giving them the win.
  • Start strong. Get rid of as many pennies early in the game as possible.
  • Play the odds. If certain numbers are full, passing may be a safer choice.
