Penny Drop is an original wooden dice game invented by Dave Janelle in 2015 and handcrafted by our family workshop in Hudson, Florida. It is a U.S. registered trademark (USPTO Reg. No. 5,480,890) owned by Dave Janelle and made only by Creative Crafthouse.

The Original Penny Drop, Premium edition is Creative Crafthouse's wooden dice game for family game nights with 2 to 10 players. Roll again or pass as you race to get rid of your pennies. Our founder, Dave Janelle, invented Penny Drop in 2015, and we make Penny Drop in our family workshop in Hudson, Florida.

The Premium has a cherry sliding lid that also serves as the game board, with numbered penny slots and a wooden penny grip. The box has a floorboard-material body and hand-routed edges, and catches the pennies that drop through the six. It measures 6 by 2.4 by 2.5 inches.

The box comes with a handmade 7/8-inch wooden die and rules card. You supply the pennies, normally 12 per player. Roll to place a penny in a matching empty slot, or drop it into the box on a six. Hit an occupied slot and you take the pennies on the board, ending your turn. After a safe roll you can keep going or pass; the first player to empty their pennies wins.

For a family gift, we can engrave a name or short message of up to 45 characters above Penny Drop on the cherry lid. If you need an extra die, our wooden replacement die works with Penny Drop and other dice games.

Penny Drop Game Rules

Roll the dice (you must roll at least once).
Place one penny in the matching slot.
If you roll a 6, drop a penny into the box.
If the slot already has a penny, take all pennies on the board, and your turn ends.
After a successful dice roll, you may go again or pass.

I played this game at my dads house and loved it so had to order it and was so excited to get it! It’s perfect!

I was surprised that it was a higher quality than I expected. What I didn't like is that the box slides out of the bottom when you pick it up. It's not held in place by a snugger fit or by magnets. So if you don't remember to place your hand under the bottom, it'll fall out when you pick it up. I don't want it to break.

Be sure to get a couple penny rolls from the bank while you still can.

Wow! I’m super impressed. I bought two Penny Drop games, but asked the seller to custom the holes to fit my mini poker chips that are about the same size as U.S. nickel coins. They are a perfect fit for my mini poker chips. I also had them custom some poker dice that I’ll share photos of in a separate review. The photos in the listing don’t do the games justice. How do you play Penny Drop Premium?

Players race to get rid of their pennies. Roll at least once on your turn. On 1 through 5, place a penny in the matching empty slot; if that slot is occupied, take all pennies showing on the board and end your turn. A six sends a penny into the box. After a safe roll, choose whether to roll again or pass. The first player with no pennies left wins. Read our official Penny Drop rules for the full game.

How many people can play, and what do we need?

For a family game night, gather 2 to 10 players for a game of Penny Drop. Supply 12 pennies per person, or use 10 or 11 each to change the pace, with everyone starting with the same number. Pennies are not included. You can use penny-sized tokens that fit the slots.

What comes with the Premium edition?

The Premium game box with its cherry sliding lid that also serves as the game board, a wooden penny grip, one handmade 7/8-inch wooden die and a rules card. The red dot on the die represents one. Supply your own pennies for play.
