Five years into a marriage, the traditional gift is wood. We did not invent that custom, but we may be the rare shop where the entire catalog already answers it: we are a family wood shop, nearly everything we make is wood, and every piece can be engraved. Our workshop is in Hudson, Florida, and every order ships from our Florida shop.
Most wood anniversary lists are roundups of unrelated products that happen to contain some wood. This one is different for a simple reason: these are pieces we make and ship ourselves, and each one is built to be kept and used, not unwrapped once and shelved.
Why year five is traditionally the wood anniversary
Wood is the traditional fifth-anniversary gift, a custom with roots in Germanic tradition that English-speaking countries codified in the 1800s. Traditional is the honest word: a few modern gift lists swap in silverware for year five, but wood is the classic answer, and it is the one people search for. The nice part of the tradition is that wood earns it. A wooden gift five years in is still solid at year twenty-five.
For the couple: games you will actually play
The best anniversary gift for two people is often something built for two.
The Tournament Cribbage Board is the heirloom pick: a full-length board offered in three wood options, with your names or the wedding date engraved into the wood. A cribbage board gets played for decades, which is more than most anniversary gifts can claim. For a smaller budget or a couple that travels, the Folding Cribbage Board closes over its own pegs and cards.
Not a cribbage house? A wooden Double 12 dominoes set comes in an engravable box, and Nine Men's Morris is a two-player strategy game that takes minutes to learn and years to exhaust.
Keepsake boxes with a surprise inside
A puzzle box turns the gift into a small event. Engrave the lid, hide something inside (a note, a ring, a gift card, the plane tickets), and hand over a box that does not open until they figure it out.
The Secret Lock Box was designed by Erhan Cubukcuoglu, and we produce it with his permission. It is sized for gift cards and folded notes, and after the anniversary it keeps working as a keepsake box. The Secret Stash, designed by Bob Nolet, is the step up: solid cherry with a felt-lined interior, and an opening trick that is easy once you know it and maddening until you do.
If the gift should say five years out loud, the Hurricane Puzzle Box is the one built for it. It is a solid maple secret lock box, over 1.5 pounds of it, that only opens for the person who works out its trick, and we engrave the lid (or a side, if you prefer) with your names or the wedding date (up to 45 characters). Hide the real gift inside, and after the reveal the box itself stays behind as the keepsake.
A puzzle that ends up on display
Our picture-frame puzzles are laser-cut hardwood pieces that fit back into a 7.5 inch wooden frame, and the frame is the point: solved, they are made to be displayed. Match the theme to something you two share. Sea Creatures II for the couple that lives near the water, the Cook's Cupboard for the kitchen, the Hiker's puzzle for trail people. Every frame can be engraved with your names and the date, so five years together sits on the shelf as something you both made whole.
For him, for her
If you are shopping for your spouse rather than for the pair of you, match the piece to the person. The Decision Maker is a wooden desk pendulum for whoever claims they cannot pick a restaurant (engrave it with an inside joke and it becomes a daily laugh). A chess player gets a chess-themed brain teaser. A gardener, a florist, a nurse, a woodworker: there is a picture-frame puzzle for nearly every hobby and profession, each one engravable.
Make it personal
Every piece in our shop can be engraved, up to 45 characters standard. Names and the wedding date fit easily; a short line from the vows usually does too. Standard orders ship from our Florida shop within 1 business day and personalized orders within 2, and everything carries our 30-day free-return policy.

If you are still deciding, the Gift Center sorts the whole shop by recipient, and our guides to gifts for puzzle lovers and gift card puzzle boxes go deeper on two of the categories above.
Wood anniversary questions, answered
What is the traditional 5th anniversary gift?
Wood, traditionally. The custom has roots in Germanic tradition and was codified in English-speaking countries in the 19th century. Some modern lists substitute silverware for year five, but wood remains the classic answer.
Can you engrave our names and wedding date?
Yes. Every item in our shop can be personalized, up to 45 characters standard. Names plus a date fit comfortably. Placement varies by piece: a box takes it on the lid, a cribbage board on the board itself, a picture-frame puzzle on the frame.
How fast do personalized orders ship?
Personalized orders ship from our Florida shop within 2 business days; standard orders within 1. All orders carry our 30-day free-return policy.
What if my spouse is not a puzzle person?
Skip the brain teasers and go for the pieces that are wood first and puzzle second: a cribbage board or dominoes set you play together, a keepsake box that works as everyday storage after the reveal, or a picture-frame puzzle that spends its life on a shelf, not in a drawer.
