Handcrafted wooden cipher machines, key mazes, and lock boxes built for live rooms: customizable for your storyline, durable enough for daily play, and shipped from our Florida workshop.
If you run or design escape rooms, you already know the difference between a prop that sells the story and one that breaks in week two. We are a family workshop that has been making mechanical puzzles for years, and a real share of our cipher machines, mazes, and lock boxes were designed at the request of working escape room operators. This page is for the people sourcing for a room: owners building a new game, designers swapping out a tired puzzle, and operators who need a prop they can engrave with their own codes, reset between groups, and trust to hold up under hundreds of hands. Everything below is real, in stock, and most pieces can be laser engraved with your own text, codes, or images to fit your theme. When you find the right fit, the fastest next step is to request a quote on samples and volume pricing.

Sourcing for a live room is not the same as buying a puzzle for a shelf. A few questions save you money and downtime.
- What beat does this prop play? Match the puzzle to where it sits in your flow. A cipher machine or hidden-message panel carries a slow, satisfying decode in the middle of a room. A lock box or key maze is a reveal that gates the next area. A quick fitting puzzle keeps momentum when a team needs an early win. Pick the prop for the job, not just the theme.
- Can you reset it between groups? Every prop here resets by hand in seconds. A cipher wheel returns to its key setting, a lock box closes again, a maze re-traps its key. There is no app to reboot, no battery to charge, and nothing to re-pair when the next team walks in.
- Will it survive the year? These are solid hardwoods, not printed cardstock or thin acrylic. Cherry, maple, alder, and similar woods take daily handling without going soft at the edges. When a piece does eventually wear, wood is repairable in ways a molded plastic prop is not.
- How many do you need, and how soon? Stock levels and build-to-order timelines vary by piece. Larger props like the key mazes are made in smaller runs. If you are outfitting a new location or a multi-room build, tell us the quantity and your opening date so we can confirm lead time before you commit.
Custom engraving and themed props
Most of what we make can be customized for your room. We laser engrave your own codes, clue text, room name, or images into the props, so the cipher the team decodes is your cipher and the message hidden in a panel is your message. That turns a catalog piece into something that belongs to your story instead of reading like a prop a hundred other rooms also bought. If you have a theme that needs a specific look, a pirate ship, an ancient tomb, a heist office, talk to us. A real share of our catalog started as a one-off build for an operator who asked for something that did not exist yet. The Jumbo Enigma Cipher Gears began exactly that way, as a request from a room in the UK.
Why handmade wood holds up in a working room
The props that survive years of daily play tend to share one thing: they are built from real material by people who expect them to be handled hard. We cut, assemble, and engrave in our shop, and we ship every order from our Florida workshop. Wood has weight and grip that players notice, it does not feel like a toy, and it ages into a room rather than looking cheap by the end of season one. If you also operate live rooms and want the other side of the build, our sister company Creative Escape Rooms works on the escape room side directly, and the two shops share a lot of hard-won lessons about what actually survives contact with a full booking calendar.
