The Colorful Belle Box is a solid maple puzzle box built to hold cash, a gift card, jewelry, or a folded note behind a lock that has no keyhole and no combination dial. It makes handing over cash or a gift card a small event, with a puzzle to solve before the gift comes out. It looks like a finished keepsake, not a puzzle, until someone tries to open it. There is a secret: one hidden move releases the lid, it takes seconds once you know it, and nothing on the outside gives it away. We include the solution sheet, and there is a short video if you would rather be shown.

Belle is part of our Hurricane series, the secret-opening boxes we design and build in our Hudson, Florida wood shop. What sets Belle apart is the finish. Each box is offered in natural maple or a hand-lacquered color: yellow, red, blue, or black, with engraved artwork on every face, plus a laser-engraved bottom the plain Hurricane boxes do not have. It is a heavy piece, over 1.5 pounds of hardwood, so it has the weight and presence of something meant to be kept.

It measures 5.5 by 4.4 by 3.2 inches on the outside, with a 3.5 by 2.5 by 1.7 inch space inside, room for bills, most gift cards, or a small keepsake. Unlike the printed, factory-cut boxes sold under a dozen brand names, every Belle is cut and finished by hand, so the maple grain is unique to your box.

Want to make it personal? We can laser-engrave a name, date, or short message on the lid or any side, so the gift is a keepsake before it is ever opened.
