Description

Bring the baby shower gift that everyone will want a turn with. The Pregnancy Decider is a joke pregnancy test made of wood for grown-ups: "The Pregnancy Tester" is engraved across the top, with five results around it: It's a Boy, It's a Girl, Not Pregnant, No Chance This Month, and Try Again Tonight to Activate Positive Result. Swing the pendulum and see the answer! It is made for a laugh at a baby shower, a gender reveal party or a Christmas exchange with a couple who are expecting or trying, and Creative Crafthouse, the family business founded in 2003, makes it in Hudson, Florida.

Any of the answers could result from the swing; only the universe knows. It is pure fun: the Pregnancy Decider is not a pregnancy test and not a medical device, it cannot tell anyone whether they are pregnant or whether the baby is a boy or a girl, and it should never guide a health decision. As a fun item for the couple trying to get pregnant, or a keepsake for an expecting mom who has fielded every baby question twice, it is exactly the right amount of silly.

Our laser etches the title and all five results into a rubberwood base, so the joke lasts well past the shower. Under every result sits a small hidden magnet, paired with one inside the pendulum, so as the swing dies down the pendulum settles over one result, no batteries or switches involved. The bottom is backed in red felt, which keeps it from scratching a gift table or dresser.

A reviewer once admitted they had no idea how to put it together; it turns out to be one screw. In the kit, nicely packaged, are the engraved board, its arm, the pendulum, one screw and an instruction sheet. With the red felt side facing you, push the screw through the small hole and turn it up into the bottom of the arm; you supply the large Phillips screwdriver. The pendulum's height is adjustable by turning the small metal eye it hangs from, if you ever want it closer to the board. With the arm on, it reaches 5.5 inches high, and the base is 7.7 by 3.75 inches.

We can laser the couple's names or the due date on the front of the base; anything up to 45 characters fits, and the gag gift becomes a keepsake from the pregnancy. Add a Wood Message Card, engraved with whatever you want to tell the parents-to-be, and it ships with the gift. Want your own five results? You can custom order one to your specs. Plan around the shower date: we need one business day to send a plain Pregnancy Decider from Florida, and two when it is engraved or carries a card.

Once the baby is here, the Mom's Decision Maker puts Hug Kids on the board, and our Decision Makers collection shows every face we make.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pregnancy Decider?

A wooden joke for grown-ups that reads "The Pregnancy Tester" across the top, with five results: It's a Boy, It's a Girl, Not Pregnant, No Chance This Month, and Try Again Tonight to Activate Positive Result. Swing it and see the answer. The Pregnancy Decider is made by Creative Crafthouse, the family-run workshop in Hudson, Florida.

Can it actually tell if someone is pregnant, or the baby's sex?

No. The Pregnancy Decider is a joke, not a pregnancy test or a medical device, and every result on it is made up; any of the five can come up. For a real answer, use an actual pregnancy test or talk to a doctor.

When should I give it?

The Pregnancy Decider fits a baby shower, a gender reveal party, or a Christmas gift exchange with a couple who are expecting or trying. Engraved with their names or the due date, it turns into a keepsake from the pregnancy.

How is it put together?

The Pregnancy Decider goes together with one screw and a large Phillips screwdriver that you provide. Lay the base face down, find the small hole near one end of the felt, then turn the screw up through that hole into the bottom of the arm. That is the only step, and the little metal eye the pendulum hangs from can be turned later if you want the pendulum to sit higher or lower.

Why does it land on one answer instead of drifting?

Each result on the Pregnancy Decider has its own magnet under the wood, and there is one in the pendulum, so as the swing dies away the nearest one draws it in. Nothing needs batteries.

What size is it, and what comes with it?

At 5.5 inches tall with a 7.7 by 3.75 inch base, the Pregnancy Decider sits nicely on the gift table. The kit is the engraved rubberwood base with its arm and pendulum, plus one screw and instructions, all nicely packaged, and red felt covers the bottom.

Can I personalize the Pregnancy Decider?

Yes. The Pregnancy Decider can be personalized with a custom laser engraving. Add a name, date, or short message when you order. See our laser engraving page for details and examples. For a custom logo or artwork, request a quote for custom work. The couple's names or their due date fit in the 45 characters we can engrave across the base front, and your own note can travel in the same box on a Wood Message Card.

How far ahead should I order for a shower?

Count on one business day for a plain Pregnancy Decider to leave our Florida workshop and two with engraving or a card, plus transit time. For a shower near Christmas, check the order-by dates against the holiday shipping cutoff dates page.

What should I get them once the baby comes?

The Mom's Decision Maker puts Hug Kids on the board. You can also request a quote for custom work to have one made to your specs, or look through our Decision Makers collection.
