Description

Chinese Checkers for 6 Players is a full-size all-wood Chinese Checkers set, about 12.2 inches across, that folds in half, latches shut, and holds every playing peg inside. There is no loose bag to lose and no marbles rolling off the table: open the board and 2 to 6 people are ready to play. Cut from thick hardwood, it suits family game nights, grandparents at the kitchen table, and anyone who wants a strategy game that stores itself.

We built this larger board after a steady run of requests for a bigger all-wood set, and we chose wooden pegs rather than marbles on purpose. Pegs seat firmly in the board, so a bumped table will not scatter your game, and they are easier to pick up than glass marbles. Folded, the set is about 1.5 inches thick and weighs around a pound and a half, so it stores on a shelf and travels without spilling.

Despite the name, Chinese Checkers is not Chinese. It was invented in Germany in 1892 as Stern-Halma, a six-pointed-star reworking of the older game Halma, and American game makers renamed it Chinese Checkers in 1928 because the exotic name sold better. That six-pointed star is what lets all six players race across the board at once, and it has kept families at the table for well over a century.
