Handcrafted Go (Goban) board set made in our Florida shop with cover and pegs that provide both stability and the ability to pack a game in-progress away and then return to the same game later. The board has laser engraved the recording system of 1-19 vertically and A-T horizontally for those that like to track their moves. Note the letter "I" is not used un GO recording, one of the oddities of the game....
The board is 10 inches square and made from high quality maple with MDF core for strength. The board is ½” thick. The pegs are varnished cribbage style pegs about 1.25” long. The game is supplied with 182 of each color (there are a couple extra). These pegs are quite costly and make up half the cost of the game, but rather than go with cheap plastic versions I opted to stick with quality wood pegs made in USA (Maine).
The cover is felt line and holds everything securely. It is also possible to embed the game board in the cover to lift it off the table about 2 inches. This game was designed with guidance from Bill Tefft, thanks Bill. It is made in our Hudson, Florida wood shop.
Go is an abstract board for two players, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. The game originated in China more than 2,500 years ago, and is one of the oldest board games played today. It was considered one of the four essential arts of a cultured Chinese scholar in antiquity.
There is significant strategy involved in the game, and the number of possible games is vast (10761 compared, for example, to the estimated 10120 possible in chess) displaying its complexity despite relatively simple rules.
Laser engraving of a name or short message on the cover is available at a small added cost. Select the option below and insert the text you want, or email with text at CreativeCrafthouse@gmail.com
